MARIOTTO ANTICIPA PIERO
Particolare della parte centrale, in alto, del polittico di "Cristo in Pietà e Santi" conservato nella chiesa di Carda.
In questo campo stretto sul dipinto di Mariotto di Cristofano la prima cosa che cattura istantaneamente l'attenzione è giustamente l'espressione dei volti della Vergine e di Gesù. Di grande interesse è secondo me anche la piccola figura, in alto, che mostra la Resurrezione di Cristo (tema indissolubile dalla sottostante pietà). Nella postura del Cristo ricorda molto una delle Resurrezioni più famose del mondo, quella di Piero della Francesca conservata nel Museo Civico di Sansepolcro. L'artista biturgense, come tanti altri grandi maestri, è stato molto imitato, sia nello stile che nella presentazione dei temi e dei soggetti. In questo caso Mariotto non può averlo copiato, ha dipinto la sua resurrezione circa 35 anni prima di Piero.

In this narrow field on the painting by Mariotto di Cristofano the first thing that instantly captures attention is rightly the expression on the faces of the Virgin and Jesus. Of great interest in my opinion is also the small figure, at the top, showing the Resurrection of Christ (a theme inseparable from the underlying pietà). In the posture of Christ it is very reminiscent of one of the most famous Resurrections in the world, that of Piero della Francesca preserved in the Civic Museum of Sansepolcro. The artist from the Valtiberina, like many other great masters, has been much imitated, both in style and in the presentation of themes and subjects. In this case Mariotto cannot have copied it, he painted his resurrection about 35 years before Piero.
