The Renaissance style loggia located in front of this church masks a little the original Romanesque architecture of the Parish Church of San Pietro in Cascia, near Reggello. Its construction dates back to the first half of the 12th century and, according to tradition, it was built thanks to a large bequest from the Countess of Canossa.
If you are in Casentino and you want to visit the Parish church of Cascia, it is recommended to reach Vallombrosa via the Consuma Pass and, from there, descend to Reggello. It takes an hour on avarage, depending on where in the Casentino you start. To find out about the Parish Church of Cascia and the interesting "Museum of Masaccio" located in a building near the apse, visit this section.
