STORIA DI SANTA TRINITA E DEL SUO POLITTICO
Entrando nella Chiesa di Carda, nella parete a sinistra sono poste la lapide e la pietra con scolpitura in stile longobardo che vediamo nella foto. La pietra la vedremo meglio a pagina 27. La lapide, di cui non si conosce il momento in cui fu collocata nella chiesa, riporta un'iscrizione che fornisce qualche notizia storica su Badia Santa Trinita a Fonte Benedetta, ricorda il 1570 come l'anno di arrivo del polittico del Cristo in Pietà di Mariotto di Cristofano in questa chiesa e dove fu collocato. La data "NEL 700" non trova alcun riscontro storico. Tutti gli studiosi sono concordi che Badia santa Trinità fu fondata nel 960 circa. La lapide riporta testualmente:
Entering the Church of Carda, on the left wall there is the plaque and the stone with Lombard-style carving that we see in the photo. We will see the stone better on page 27. The plaque, of which the moment in which it was placed in the church is unknown, bears an inscription that provides some historical information on Badia Santa Trinita in Fonte Benedetta, recalling 1570 as the year of arrival of the polyptych of Christ in Pietà by Mariotto di Cristofano in this church and where it was placed. The date "IN 700" has no historical basis. All scholars agree that Badia Santa Trinità was founded around 960. The plaque states verbatim:
ALLA SS.MA TRINITA' FU CONSACRATA
LA BADIA A FONTE BENEDETTA NEL 700
ABITATA DA MONACI DI BENEDETTO
INSINO AL 1425 SUCCEDENDO A LORO
I MONACI DI GIOVANNI GUALBERTO.
MINACCIANDO ROVINE NEL 1570
FURONO TRASFERITE IN NOSTRA CHIESA
L'ANTICHE IMMAGINI DI FATTURA IN LEGNO
