LO STEMMA DI UN PAPA?
All'interno della Pieve di Socana sono presenti, scolpiti nelle pietre, alcuni stemmi araldici, ormai praticamente illeggibili. Il meglio conservato è questo posto sulla parte interna del primo pilastro di sinistra. Secondo alcuni studiosi sarebbe lo stemma di Papa Leone V. Ma perché in questa chiesa lo stemma di un Papa che ebbe tra l'altro un pontificato brevissimo, circa un mese, nell'estate del 903? Con precisione non è dato sapersi, però sembra da alcuni documenti che avesse dei legami con il territorio sotto la giurisdizione di questa chiesa, il così detto piviere di Socana. Forse Leone V aveva delle proprietà in questo territorio, come una casa che poteva essere quella natale, visto che la sua nascita ad Ardea vicino a Roma è sempre stata molto dubbia.
Inside the Pieve di Socana there are, carved in the stones, some coats of arms, now practically illegible. The best preserved is this one located on the inside of the first pillar on the left. According to some scholars, it would be the coat of arms of Pope Leo V. But why in this church the coat of arms of a Pope who had a very short pontificate, about a month, in the summer of 903? It is not known with precision, but it seems from some documents that he had ties with the territory under the jurisdiction of this church, the so-called parish of Socana. Perhaps Leo V had some properties in this territory, such as a house that could have been his birthplace, given that his birth in Ardea near Rome has always been very doubtful.
